Privacy Policy
Short version: the Shadow Code app does not collect, send, share or sell any data. The app has no accounts, no analytics, no telemetry and no servers. Its only web request is to check for updates. Our website counts visits without cookies (see "Our website").
What stays on your Mac
Shadow Code keeps a few small files so it remembers your setup. They never leave your Mac:
~/Library/Application Support/Shadow Code/: your projects (folder path, chosen app, layout, Main anchor, rows); the last window arrangement; which windows you used recently; app minimum sizes; your answers about other apps' windows; windows you added by hand; your license key, if you bought one.~/Library/Logs/Shadow Code/app.log: a local diary of what the app did (for example "arranged 3 windows"), to help you, or us if you choose to send it, understand a problem.- Inside each project folder, a
.shadowcode/folder with the list of clones and, in isolated-copy mode, git worktrees that you create from your own repository.
To remove everything, delete those folders and the app.
What Shadow Code reads and changes on your Mac
- Accessibility permission (macOS): used only to read and change the position and size of windows of the apps you use with Shadow Code, and to bring a window to the front. Shadow Code does not read what is inside your windows, does not read what you type and does not record your screen.
- Other apps' windows: to keep windows you protect in the layout, Shadow Code reads which app owns each window on screen and where it is (app name, position and size). It does not capture window contents.
- Clipboard: when you open Claude clones in isolated-copy mode, Shadow Code puts the copies' folder paths on your clipboard so you can paste them in each new window. It does not read your clipboard.
- Dock: "Clear Dock recents…" removes the target app's entries from the Dock's recent apps, only when you choose it.
Network
Shadow Code makes no network connections, with one exception: checking for updates. The app downloads a small file from shadowcodeapp.com that lists the current version. Like any web request, it reveals your IP address and the app version to our host, Cloudflare, which serves the file. We don't collect or keep it, and the app does not send any information about your Mac. You can turn automatic checks off in the app's settings.
Your license key is checked on your Mac. The app does not contact any server to activate or validate it.
Our website
The app collects nothing. Our website (shadowcodeapp.com) counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first analytics service that does not use cookies or local storage and does not identify you. We only see totals, such as how many people visited a page or the download page. That is why there is no cookie banner. The website loads no third-party fonts or scripts other than that one.
Purchases
Payments are processed by FastSpring, our reseller and merchant of record, which receives the data needed to sell you the license (name, e-mail, payment details) under its own privacy policy. We receive from them only what is needed to deliver your license and give support: your e-mail address and the order details.
A few days after you buy, we may send you one e-mail with two short questions about why you bought Shadow Code. Answering is optional, and we use the answers only to improve the app. There is no newsletter and no marketing e-mail.
Support
If you write to us, we use your message only to answer you. If you choose to send your app.log, it may contain folder paths and app names from your Mac. Read it before sending.
Children
Shadow Code is a developer tool and is not directed to children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
